ACT Summer Class Descriptions
Storybook Theatre (Ages 4-5yrs)
Does your child love to be "on stage" or is your child shy around others? Either way, this class will help them channel their inner actor. Students will learn to use their acting tools (body and voice) to tell a story, and use their imaginations to create characters. If your child loves storytelling or make believe this is a great class to spark their imagination and give them a chance to shine while they pretend, invent, and learn theatre skills. Family and friends are invited to see them perform on the last day of class.

Beginning Stages (K-2nd grades)
Students in this class will use their imagination and energy to begin to develop their theatrical skills as they create fun characters and experiment with improvisation while working with folk and fairy tales. Through the use of theatre games, the students will experience the basics of acting.

Aug 3-7, 10:00 - 11:00am

This introductory theatre class will teach children the basics of theatre and what it takes to put on a production. Theatre terminology, stage directions, and beginning acting are among the new skills presented.
Schedule: June 1-5 1:00 - 3:00 pm (3rd-5th grades);
June 8-12 1:00 - 3:00 pm (6th - 8th grades)

Actor's Studio I (3rd-5th grades)
For beginning actors, this class provides creative exploration of acting using theatre games, improvisation and character development. A performance to showcase the student's new skills will be held on the last day of class for family and friends

Actor's Studio II (6th-8th grades)
This class will encourage students to exercise their creativity while learning and reviewing basic theatre skills including theatre terminology, stage directions, and beginning acting techniques such as vocal projection, timing, and concentration. On the last day of class, students get to demonstrate their developing talents for family and friends.

Actor's Studio III (High School)
For the experienced actor, this class will concentrate on character study, monologues and scene development using acting exercises and scene work. A performance to showcase the student's new skills will be held on the last day of class for family and friends

Behind the Curtain: Stage Tech (Grades 6-HS)
Want to learn more about the magic of live theatre? Curious about how all those amazing sets and costumes come to life? This class gives an introduction into the production side of the theatre. Areas covered include lighting, sound, set construction, props, and costuming.

First Impressions: Auditioning
This class will cover the fundamentals of the auditioning process. How to choose a monologue, what songs to choose, and resume building will help strengthen their confidence and be able to nail that next audition.
Schedule: Mondays June 15 - July 13, 9:00 - 10:00am;
Mondays July 6 - Aug 3, 3:00 - 4:00pm

Improving Improv I & II (Middle School or High School)
This class will be taught by Michael Hauschild, a graduate of New York's AMDA, American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Mike has also trained with Second City Improv in Los Angeles as well as Upright Citizen's Brigade in New York. Mike spent several years performing around the United States with The Skinny Improv group.
Using this vital acting skill, students will learn the fundamentals of improvisational comedy through dialogue, teamwork, scene development and character building. Both long form and comedic improv will be covered as they learn to seize the moment and utilize their creative thinking and acting abilities. A final day showcase for family and friends will show off the students entertaining skills.

Broadway Bound: Musical Theatre (3rd-8th grades)
This introductory musical theatre class will emphasize singing, dancing, and movement for the stage as well as the development of acting skills.
Schedule: Aug 3-7, 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Creating a "Monster": Makeup (all ages)
Not just for girls, this makeup class will cover the basics of stage makeup. Students will learn the difference between street and stage makeup, explore the creation of characters, make bruises and other wounds, and learn to transform themselves and others.
Schedule: July 6-10, 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Tuition: $30.00 (includes supplies)
